Field trip to Lagos de Moreno

On August 5, 2017, we surveyed ants on the Mesa Redonda hill near Lagos de Moreno, Jalisco with Ecology students from UNAM. This place is an interesting sky island mountain at 2050 m a.s.l. that is surrounded by several hectares of agricultural areas, but from its base to the top is relatively well preserved.

In order to analyze the microbiome associated with the ants we collected nests of Odontomachus, Pogonomyrmex, Camponotus, Crematogaster and Aphaenogaster. We also placed two transects of baited traps and sampled leaf litter.
